There are different ways to practice our brain to think in English. On this blog I will share some of the activities I do with my students. I encourage you to try this as well with your language partner or with your teacher. May you have fun learning the English Language.
This blog is Part II of the article Think in English .
Doing activities to train ourselves think in English has to be done in a progressive way. You cannot start an advanced activity if you are an intermediate or a beginner because that will only create confusion and will definitely frustrate you.
Here are the activities you can do.
Activity 1 - Flash Cards
We usually choose translator dictionary for us to be able to identify things in English. This time you will associate it with photos instead of translating it to your native language. Try to choose a photo that shows an object, and identify it in English language.
Example : mountains, television, stove, airplane, etc.
Activity 2 - Describing Pictures
Choose a photo from the internet and try to describe the picture in complete sentences.
Example : The skies are blue.
The picture shows how beautiful autumn is.
You can describe the picture in simple sentences to complex sentences but that depends on your level and on the photo you will choose. If you are a beginner choose a photo with lesser details.
Above is the sample photo for Beginners.
Above is the sample photo for Intermediate - Advanced level.
Activity 3 - Tell a Story
Tell a Story activity can be practiced by students who are in intermediate /advanced level. You will be choosing at least 3 pictures and you will try to connect it by creating a story out of it.
Example : A worried woman decided to go out and call her friends to help her look for her dog. Thankfully, she was reunited with her frisky brown dog.
Note : Before you do these activities, don’t forget to study at your own pace. The more relaxed you are, the more you can process the ideas you will come up with. Have fun learning the English language.
